The weather prognosticators say it is going to freeze this late January weekend.
Yes, this is Texas…south Central Texas. It is not a surprise to me because I’ve lived in Texas since I was sixteen except for a few forays elsewhere I always returned.
What always amazes me is the behavior of people in the days leading up to the event.
By Thursday evening, most grocery store shelves had been laid bare. Bottled water and toilet paper were the first to be snapped up followed closely by milk, eggs, meat, and soup. I must admit, this baffling situation amazes me as I read recounted experiences by folks new to the area. I still just shake my head in wonder.
I am a preparer.
I do not run out of things.
I plan ahead for what I need.
What concerns me is the possibility I haven’t mulched my garlic and onions enough.my cabbage and broccoli love this weather.
My son sawed up the downed magnolia tree in the backyard and stacked it closer to the back door. In piles. According to size. It was on our agenda before the polar vortex shifted because I read about the weather long before it is predicted.
I’m not going anywhere so I don’t need more than the half tank of gas in vehicle.
I have flour. I have yeast. I might bake some French bread. or bagels. I have water. In the tap or in my canning jars if the need surfaces.
I will draw my thermal blackout drapes. Light a fire in the fireplace and enjoy wearing my fleecy clothes.
Perhaps I’ll paint..

Snuggle in time! Your post resonates, though I’d end with “perhaps a poem will emerge” …

Nicely written.
I believe I would act the same way.
For me, it’s safety first. Then toilet paper. But I always have plenty of that.
