Late Spring

Two days remain
in late April
the thermometer has registered
low 90s
This is our signal and
far more accurate
spring prepares
to exit
This morning, our first
magnolia bloom
pulled me like a magnet
to stand beneath
and search for what my nose already
told me was there…
Three rows up and to the left
the first waxy bud
plumps before the whorls
unfurl
This morning, 48 degrees
still cannot derail
nature’s timeline.
